General Dentistry
General Dentistry is a very Broad Subject and encompasses nearly every speciality of Dentistry. A General Dentist in the United States is extremely well trained in multiple areas. An Example is Prosthetics. There are Prostodontist that are specilaist in Dentures, Partial Dentures and Fixed Prosthetics like Crowns and Bridges. However, General Dentist perform these functions most often. Normally when a specialist is required for a particular patient it is because the circumstances are very complex. Other specialities are Oral Surgery(Extractions), Endodontics(Root Canals), Periodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Pathology, Radiology and as already mentioned Prostodontics. So as you can see a General Dentist has training in all these areas but most often refers very complex cases to a specialist. There is still the need for filling, cleaning and x-rays and this is the beginning of General Dentistry. Most General Dentist will find an area in Dentistry that they really enjoy and spend a lifetime practicing their profession in these areas. An Example is Cosmetic Dentistry. I have spent the last 30 years learning as much as I can about Cosmetics of the teeth, Face and Complex Reconstruction including Implant Therapy. I absolutely get a kick out of helping a person achieve that smile they have always wanted. Often times a Smile will change the entire attitude of a person. I have found that you can't seperate Cosmetic Dentistry from Reconstruction. Additionally you can't sperate Reconstruction from Complex Dentistry or Implants. So if a General Dentist wants to gravitate to Cosmetic Dentistry then he or She has to devote themselves to a lifetime of Continueing Education to keep up on New Technology that can help him or her deliver the best possible product to the patient. Here at the Advanced Dental Cosmetic Center we spare no expense to have the most modern and State of the Art Equipment to accomplish this demanding field. In this section you will find some of the General Dentistry Procedures we perform. If you are seeking a dentist and aren't sure of what, who or where etc. , you want to go then do the research.
